Sunglasses-wearing cartoon characters that shook the world… I guess

Movie heroes aren’t the only ones bitten by the stylish sunglasses bug, TV stars too! And by TV I don’t necessarily mean living people.

Talking about… oh yes, cartoons! Some of these cartoon characters are actually the inspirations for a handful of designs you see in the wholesale sunglasses section of the department store.

Johnny Bravo

An overly confident beefcake if you may that often gets turned down by the girls he runs after – everybody finds that funny. Keyword: overly confident. Johnny Bravo takes the cake on this one. Personally, it’s the plot that cracks me up.

Johnny Bravo’s overall appearance only adds to the funny. The show was able to garner commercial and critical success, making it one of Cartoon Network’s biggest shows. In late 2000 it made its way to the big screen.

SpongeBob

Not exactly a fan of Mr. SquarePants and the entire show, but it makes me smile knowing that my nieces and nephews love it.

Because of its popularity, SpongeBob just has to be on this list. The show is Nickelodeon’s highest rating show and record-holder for the most Kids’ Choice awards. Not sure if my nieces the nephews have a hand on this.

Peter Griffin (Family Guy)

“You’d better watch who you’re calling a child, Lois. Because if I’m a child, you know what that makes you? A pedophile… and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna be lectured by a pervert.”

“I’ve got an idea – an idea so smart that my head would explode if I even began to know what I’m talking about.”

Until Homer Simpson decides to wear sunglasses on a regular basis, Peter Griffin remains the funniest sunglasses-wearing cartoon character ever. Really, they should do a Hall of Fame for the funniest cartoon characters of all time.

Eric Cartman (SouthPark)

Not a few people, much less cartoon characters, can mix adorability and a-holeness. At least not quite like Eric Cartman. He may not wear sunglasses all the time but come on, you gotta respect his authoritah!

Without question, Eric is one of the reasons why SouthPark was so successful and widely regarded as one of the best cartoon series of all time.

Snoopy

Like Cartman, Snoopy doesn’t wear sunglasses all the time. But among this list, he is easily the most recognizable, having come from a well-loved comic strip (Peanuts) that run for five long decades.

When it made its way to TV, its popularity grew even further. The death of its creator Charles Schultz brought tears to millions, proof of the huge impact this cartoon creation had on people.
